Women in Black is an international peace network--less an organization than a formula for action--whose vigils were started in Israel in 1988 by women protesting against Israel's Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. In New York City, Women in Black holds vigils every Thursday, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Union Square, across from the Virgin Record Store.
